Meet Shelbie St. Dennis! Sr. Curriculum Writer located at our Texas office.
Tell us about yourself!
Growing up, my dad was in the Army so I moved around a lot. I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. I’ve lived in Hawaii, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Missouri, and even spent five years in Germany. I received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri (go Tigers!). After changing my major four times, from biology to biochemistry to biological engineering, I finally settled on mathematics as my major, and graduated in 2012.
How did you hear about Edmentum?
I started with Edmentum in August of 2012. I heard about this position online through CareerBuilder.
What are you and your department responsible for?
The math team develops a lot of the math products that the company produces. We’re responsible for creating rigorous, standards-based, and age-appropriate assessments.
What interests you about the field that you are in?
The constant change and craziness that goes along with working in an education field is very interesting! Although, it does make life hectic and stressful sometimes when you see all the change and indecision that goes along with education over the years. I love that working in an education field gives me the opportunity to be creative and also feel like the work I do is really worthwhile.
What is the most enjoyable aspect of your job?
The first thing that comes to mind is the level of difficulty of my job. This job provides me with new challenges almost on a daily basis and keeps me constantly engaged, which keeps things interesting.
What activities are you interested in outside of work?
I like trying new things out, so I don’t really have one particular hobby that’s my go-to most enjoyable activity, but instead I try to keep things interesting. I enjoy anything outdoor like hiking, swimming, fishing, camping, traveling, and relaxing at the beach. I’m also perfectly content with doing less active indoors activities, like reading, watching movies, and even binge watching entire seasons of different TV shows on Netflix.
What are your professional goals?
I hope to continue to work with a talented team of people and continue to be constantly challenged and engaged with what I do.
