Meet Our Employees

Thursday, October 16, 2014 -- Carly Bursik

Meet Sarah Read! Training Consultant located at our Texas office.

Tell us about yourself!

I grew up in the small town of Findlay in central Illinois, which had a population of 750 people and I had 21 in my graduating class. I received my Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology from Parkland College and received my Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Eastern Illinois University. I taught middle and high school science for 10 years, and then I got my Master’s in Technology/Training and Development. I moved to Dallas in 2011 to pursue a career in training and development.

What is your history with Edmentum?

I started in August of 2011 and worked as an Account Manager for a year before changing roles. I joined the Training and Readiness team in September of 2012 and started working as a Training Consultant.

What is your team responsible for?

As a Training Consultant I work to incorporate instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles into training. My team designs and develops training material, including instructor-led training (virtual and classroom), on-demand training (including audio and video), presentations, websites, podcasts, job aids, surveys, test items, and activities. I utilize software such as PowerPoint, Word, Publisher, Camtasia, Snipping Tool, Gimp, Snagit and Brainshark to develop these training materials and I also facilitate live training and webinars using GoToTraining and Lync technologies. A large part of my job includes needs assessment; I confer with stakeholders to identify skill gaps and develop appropriate training strategies. Our team evaluates the effectiveness of training using stakeholder feedback and assessment tools that measure audience skills and knowledge.

What is the most enjoyable aspect of your job?

I enjoy working with different departments in the company. I have to keep in contact with people from all parts of our organization depending on the project that I am working on. Also, the creativity I am allowed when creating the multitude of training resources that our team is responsible for is great.

Hobbies outside of work?

One of my hobbies is stained glass. I am definitely a beginner but I like creating new art pieces. I have two Australian Shepherds, Alice and Darwin and they keep me very busy. Also, I am an avid NCAA sports fan. I grew up in central Illinois so I follow the Big Ten and try to coordinate visits home with football or basketball games.

What are your professional goals?

I would like to become an expert in adult learning, performance improvement, e-learning and all evolving trends within the Instructional Design field. I would like to have the opportunity to use the latest and greatest technologies to build the different projects that I work on. Also, I would like to have more exposure to delivering informal and formal training so I can become an engaging and effective facilitator and coach.
