Meet Don Bliss! Web Developer located at our Minnesota office.
Tell us about yourself!
I’m Minnesotan Born and raised, though I’ve bounced around the southern half of the state quite a bit. I spent many years after high school trying to convince myself that I didn’t want one of my favorite hobbies (computers and technology) to also be my career. Eventually, I caved and went back to school at Inver Hills Community College to give a career in technology a try. It’s worked out pretty well.
How did you hear about Edmentum?
While finishing my degree, I was seeking an internship to expand my experience within the field. After experiencing difficulties finding places that offered internships near the end of a recession, I reached out to Robert Half to see if they might just be able to place me. I interviewed with Plato Learning a couple days later, and started as a helpdesk contractor shortly thereafter. When I finished my contract through Robert Half, Plato Learning hired me on as a systems administrator, a year later I was a systems engineer, and I’ve recently made a change to try my hand in web development.
What interests you about the field that you are in?
The creative part of a web developer’s job is one of the best parts about the gig. Coming up with solutions to solve problems, or better yet, writing code to create new functionality is a fun part of being a programmer.
What are the most enjoyable aspect of your job?
There are so many reasons that I like working for Edmentum. Working for a company that is not afraid to promote from within, and allows its employees so many opportunities is fantastic. Edmentum employees should feel empowered to try something new. As a tech junky, working for a company that embraces change and technology is a big plus. The absolute best part of my job however, is who I work with. The people and culture of Edmentum really make it a great place to work. We get a lot done, and have fun doing it.
What activities are you interested in outside of work?
Well, I have a 2 year old child, so I spend a good portion of my time reading children’s books and making a fool of myself for my child’s amusement. On a rare date night with my wife, we’ll get out to a movie or maybe to a comedy club. Finally, I am a sports buff; I love to play and/or watch just about any sport.
What are your professional goals?
To research, create, implement, and support programs that make Edmentum even better.
