Meet Haamid Minhas! IT Support and Security Manager located at our Minnesota office.
Tell us about yourself!
I was born and raised in Minnesota, but my parents are originally from Pakistan. I used to go to Pakistan yearly to visit my grandfather, aunts, uncles, and cousins. It was always amazing to see the differences between the two countries, both culturally and visually. Pretty early on, I developed an affinity for computers and all technology in general. This prompted me to attend classes at Hennepin Technical College for network administration and I will be registering at the University of Minnesota to start my bachelors in computer science. Besides computers, I enjoy working on and driving fast cars, although my current car can be classified as more loud than fast.
How did you hear about Edmentum?
I started at PLATO (now Edmentum) in July of 2011 as a contractor. I was initially brought on to deploy new software on computers that we had. Eventually, I was hired on as a full time employee. I had used PLATO courseware in elementary school, and was aware of the company for that reason. There hasn’t been a single dull moment, and I have enjoyed every second of every day with Edmentum.
What are you and your department responsible for?
As the help desk manager, I am responsible for a team of five help desk analysts. We have two in Bloomington, MN, and three in the Richardson, TX office. My job entails ensuring that the help desk runs smoothly and efficiently with an emphasis on great customer service. I am also the point of contact for any escalations or questions related to the department. The help desk is responsible for helping the company with any technology related needs for Edmentum employees, including, but not limited to: computer help, software help, equipment ordering, new hire setups, etc.
What interests you about the field that you are in?
A better question would be what doesn't interest me about my field! I am fascinated by the mechanics of modern technology, and how it makes us more efficient and powerful. Nowadays, technology is so tightly integrated in our lives that we feel an essential part of us is missing if something breaks, or is left behind at home.
What is the most enjoyable aspect of your job?
The most enjoyable aspect of my job has to be seeing my employees enjoying what they are doing, and also, noticing the difference we make for the company. It makes me overjoyed to hear the phenomenal feedback I get about my department on a regular basis. It also doesn't hurt to play with the latest technology, since we are usually on the cutting edge.
What activities are you interested in outside of work?
I mentioned it before, and I’ll mention it again! I love to work on and drive fast cars. I currently own a small sports car that I love to take on long drives to Duluth (northern Minnesota). It is especially fun taking the curvy inside roads during the fall times, just as the leaves are starting to change shades. Customizing my car to look different from other cars is an incredibly enjoyable and time consuming hobby of mine as well, although a bit pricey.
What are your professional goals?
My professional goals are to help the company and the department run more efficiently, with an emphasis on customer and employee satisfaction. I am determined to grow with the company, and learn as I progress. I intend to do everything I can to achieve these goals.
