Active Intervention Defined?

Active, insightful, adaptive—these are just a few of the ways that we describe a form of intervention whose goal is to intervene before learners fail, rather than reteaching learners after the fact. In education, it’s common for there to be several terms to help describe the same idea. Below is a word map of all the terms that can be used to help define active intervention.

All of this begs the question, how do we define active intervention? Because this is still an evolving practice, I don’t think there is a definition yet. What does active intervention mean to you? How are you providing proactive instruction to your learners?
