Celebrating ACTE's Career and Technical Education Month
Celebrating ACTE's Career and Technical Education Month
Did you know that February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month®? Every year, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) hosts this public awareness campaign to call attention to the outstanding work of CTE programs and students across the country. Why is it so important to get the word out about CTE? These stats say it all:
93% – Average graduation rate for high school students concentrating in CTE programs (ACTE)
63% – Proportion of American jobs that will require postsecondary credentials by 2018, which can be obtained through CTE (NASDCTEc)
16% – Average increase in annual earnings of a CTE graduate as compared to a traditional high school graduate, eight years following graduation (EdSurge)
As these numbers show, CTE is a key strategy that helps students engage in their education and navigate the workforce. Ready to celebrate? Here are three ways to kick off the fun!
1. Explore the world of CTE
If you’re new to CTE, this month is the perfect time to dive in and learn about this fascinating, fast-moving field. Start with these great resources from Edmentum!
2. Check out ACTE's 2016 Video PSA Contest Winners
Earlier this year, ACTE called for submissions from CTE students and educators for brief public service announcement videos calling attention to the purpose and importance of CTE—and the results are pretty awesome. Check out the top three here, including Edmentum partner school United Technologies Center in Bangor, Maine, the first-place winner!
3. Partner with a local business
Invite a local business or industry leader to your classroom to talk about career options available through CTE training from a firsthand perspective. Giving your students a flavor of the “real world” like this can be a powerful motivator.
At Edmentum, we believe that CTE has the power to do an incredible amount of good—for students and our economy as a whole. That’s why we’re so excited to be celebrating CTE Month, and we hope you are too! Join us throughout February as we continue to share resources and stories of success to highlight the amazing learning taking place in the CTE community!
