Edmentum's Vision for Foundational Learning Solutions

Edmentum's Vision for Foundational Learning Solutions

There is so much focus today on early learning. The premise is that children have to develop a solid foundation of reading and math skills early, which will help them succeed in school and later in life. The traditional definition of early learning focuses on preschool, daycare, and other programs that support learning and development from birth to age five. However, this definition has been expanding to include students in kindergarten to second or third grade to ensure that they are meeting the rigorous academic standards dictated by the Common Core and are ready for the third grade reading milestones.

While educators and policymakers are focused on making sure that students receive instruction in the foundational skills needed for development, they also realize that children succeed when they are in an environment where learning is fun, creative, and engaging. This is where Edmentum comes in.

Edmentum’s vision for our foundational learning solutions, including EducationCity and Reading Eggs, is to provide high-quality content that includes engaging, age-appropriate activities and instruction to support young learners as they build their foundational skills.

EducationCity is transforming teaching and learning for pre-K–6 students studying language arts, math, science, and English as a second language. With such a wide variety of content, the product is designed to be able to easily fit into all teachers’ curriculum in a variety of capacities. The creative activities for students and interactive tools for teachers, all built specifically to align with state standards, make EducationCity a tool that teachers can turn to every day for first-time instruction, re-teaching, reinforcement, differentiated instruction, or just plain fun.

EducationCity has recently undergone a complete update in order to provide a best-in-class user experience for both teachers and students. Students can now track their progress and results, and teachers can easily access student reports, helping them leverage their data to drive instruction. The program is also optimized for use on mobile devices for more convenient use inside and outside of the classroom.

More exciting enhancements are coming for EducationCity this year, including a brand new subject (more on this soon), additional tests, an easier setup process for the new school year, and enhanced district reporting features. We continue to listen to feedback from all of our users to build the most in-demand content and features.

Given the importance of literacy as a foundation for academic success, we have also put considerable focus on making sure that our Reading Eggs and Reading Eggspress solutions offer a world-class experience. Reading Eggs is our flagship learn-to-read program for grades pre-K–2, and Reading Eggspress is a read-to-learn program for grades 3–5. These products are used by thousands of schools and districts for classrooms, intervention programs, and special education. They provide a personalized pathway to literacy for each student and feature over 1,700 e-books, a host of teacher tools, and supplemental activities for students to reinforce the five key pillars of reading.

This will be an exciting year for Reading Eggs and Reading Eggspress as well. Reading Eggs is already available on mobile devices, and coming this summer, Reading Eggspress will also be mobile compatible. We will be releasing over 500 new comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, and grammar lessons for Reading Eggspress, and we are also working on enhanced reporting and administration features to help schools and districts make the most of their data in both products.

2015 promises to be an exciting time both at Edmentum and in the field of foundational learning. We look forward to continuing to invest in our foundational learning solutions and partnering with you to ensure that the youngest students are ready to take on their future.
