Get to Know Our EdOptions Academy Teachers: Stephanie Blondeau

When I think of “virtual” teachers, my mind often creates an image of a teacher floating in puffy white clouds with a giant omniscient computer. So, you can imagine my delight when I discovered our EdOptions Academy teachers are from your state, and often from neighboring districts. They are licensed classroom teachers with at least three years of classroom experience, and they receive extensive training in online education after joining the EdOptions Academy team.

Rather than me telling you all about it, let’s hear directly from one of our teachers, Stephanie Blondeau! Learn more about who Stephanie is (spoiler: she doesn’t float in the clouds), what she does daily, and why she loves teaching.

Stephanie Blondeau: I graduated from the University of Houston in 2004 with my Bachelor of Arts in English literature. That summer, I entered a teacher certification program and began substitute teaching. While on a sub job, I got hired as an English II teacher, and the rest, as they say, is history!

A day in my virtual teaching life includes a lot of multitasking. I might be grading papers, taking parent or student calls, or I may have a one-on-one tutoring session planned. Some days are spent living in my email and creating resources to help assist in reteaching concepts my students may have missed. This is my third year as an online teacher, and I LOVE building a good rapport with my students. They know I will go above and beyond to help them succeed.

I work in education because I feel I have something to offer the world. I was that kid who loved to read, explore, and use my imagination. Teachers believed in me at a young age, and I was in the gifted and talented program. Sometimes, people see things in us that we cannot see in ourselves and those things can be amazing. I hope I can be that voice for my students—encouraging them to never give up and to follow their passion. Working at Edmentum has given me the opportunity to work with a variety of students and to be that one teacher who pushes them to do more.

So, there you have it—EdOptions Academy teachers aren’t different from any other teachers. They all have a passion for what they do and a love of learning!
