Teachers Share Their Goals for the 2022-23 School Year

One of the best things about a new school year is the feeling of a fresh start that comes along with it. What possibilities await this year? What opportunities?
We asked our amazing community of educators on Facebook and Twitter what their goals are for the upcoming school year and what they hope to achieve. Here are a few of our favorite answers:
To build community
My #1 priority for this school year is to create an inclusive community where adolescents feel respected, listened to, and loved. Middle school is hard enough, but my students also have disabilities. It's tough to create a sense of belonging for them...but not impossible! pic.twitter.com/4TNfG09RHm

Support students as they master grade-level skills
One goal is to successfully support my students so they can master grade level skills. Another goal is to help them set attainable learning standards & teach daily towards goal. Also, one of my goals is to have perfect attendance to demonstrate the importance of being present. pic.twitter.com/NMVsWDCJmK

Build communication skills
I hope that I'm able to provide my students with the skills to communicate their thoughts properly to others, to persevere when the going gets tough, and to shine with confidence when the world doubts them. (I teach pre-K) :]

Build biliteracy skills
Hello and thank you for this! I'm a Bilingual Teacher in TX. We read and write in 2 languages every day. My goal is to encourage students to build Biliteracy skills to prepare them for the future which will open doors for their success and to be proud of being Bilingual! pic.twitter.com/ORW69kF832

Build relationships, so students feel safe
My goal is to build relationships and set a positive tone so all my special education students feel safe and included so that they are willing to take a chance. We know the greatest growth takes place outside the comfort zone.

Build confidence, so students take ownership of their learning
My goal this year is to build my student's confidence and take ownership of their own personal goals. I want them to realize they are not in competition with anyone, but themselves! Currently, many are meeting personal academic goals and we roll out the "red carpet" to celebrate! pic.twitter.com/hK0ddr9oSv

Bring joy back to the classroom
My goal is to bring the JOY back to the classroom. 3 years of remote, then hybrid 2 days a week in pods, then 4 days a week... It was hard! My sweet 5th graders are SO excited to be together so we're going to enjoy it! pic.twitter.com/uMs2UXxCE5

Create a safe space for students after school
My goal this year is to bring back art club. I believe after-school programs have a positive impact on students, and I’m trying hard to offer them a safe place to express themselves.

Build a growth mindset
Help my students know that it’s ok if they don’t know YET!! pic.twitter.com/94CWBAMMrC

To feel comfortable in the classroom
Learning to be comfortable in their skin and speaking up for themselves! I now have visitors spin a wheel with a chance for everyone to win a prize because they were so shy when people came in the room. pic.twitter.com/2Wnac4ipLa

Create life-long readers
My goal is to support my 3rd graders in becoming lifelong readers. For my students who are strong readers my hope is that they begin to think critically about text. For my reluctant readers, my hope is that they find that book/series that hooks them and lights the internal flame

For every student to feel like they are the favorite
I want ALL kids to feel safe, seen, heard, & celebrated.
As a child, my favorite teacher made me feel like I was her favorite student.
Turns out, EVERY child thought they were her favorite--that’s connection!
I want EVERY kid who walks through my door to feel that way.
