[Edmentum’s Commitment] Meet the Michigan Team

Edmentum has been a pioneer in online education since our inception, tracing roots back to the acquisition of the PLATO system, which was created in 1960 as a research project at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Although nearly 60 years have passed since the beginnings of online education, Edmentum’s mission remains the same—we are committed to being educators' most trusted partner in creating successful student outcomes. The entire Edmentum team works hard to support educators and students across the country with research-based comprehensive digital curriculum, meaningful assessments, classroom practice, and education consulting, all tailored to state-specific standards and needs.
We have an experienced team of Michigan partners who are knowledgeable about Michigan’s education system and policies, are active members of the local community, and most importantly, are dedicated to helping students and educators in the state succeed. Get to know your Edmentum partners in Michigan with these fun introductions:
Michael Phelps, Partnership Manager
“My name is Michael E. Phelps, and I have been a part of the Edmentum family since 2011, working with districts across the state of Michigan. I am a homegrown Michigander, originally from Grand Blanc, now residing in Grand Ledge. I graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, majoring in finance and minoring in marketing. Prior to working for Edmentum, I was an account manager for a school supply provider and a class A golf professional in Michigan. As your Edmentum partnership manager, it is my desire to assure that we provide you with the appropriate resources to help your schools, teachers, and students reach their goals.”
Jill Jackson, Partnership Manager
“My name is Jill Jackson. I joined the Edmentum team just over two years ago, and I help support Michigan educators. Before joining Edmentum’s team, I worked in the healthcare industry for 10 years, so I have a passion for helping others. I like being able to connect with educators through my job. My husband and I have a six-year-old daughter, and it’s wonderful to watch her learn and grow, giving us an inside look into what educators at her school experience on a daily basis. She has a lot of fun playing in our program Reading Eggs at home and collecting Golden Eggs!”
Todd Tobin, Michigan School District Consultant
“I am Todd A. Tobin, a lifelong Michigander who is rooted in education. My father was an administrator with Dearborn Public Schools (DPS) for decades, my mother also retired from DPS, and my sister and brother-in-law are currently teaching in the district; I truly cherish the relationships I have with many family and friends who teach across the state of Michigan. I received my teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan University and began my career as a teacher for Lincoln Park Public Schools. After a short stint teaching, I switched my focus and began working with districts to implement technology in schools across Michigan. I also coached Lincoln Park boys’ varsity basketball for 11 seasons, leading the team to a successful run and many league and district championships, and I continue to be very active in youth sports across the area. I joined the Edmentum team in April 2017 and currently focus on building partnerships with Metro Detroit school districts. I reside in Milford, Michigan, with my wife Michelle and our four children.”
Crystal Angerhofer, Michigan School District Consultant
“My name is Crystal Angerhofer, and I’ve been partnering with Michigan educators for the last seven years through Edmentum. I currently hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology and early childhood education with a minor in art. I am very passionate about making early literacy fun, and I get a lot of practice with my four-year-old daughter. Whether we are making a menu for a cupcake store or designing a treasure map, watching her love for learning inspires me to share new and exciting ideas with others.”
George Chapp, Implementation Consultant
“My name is George Chapp, and throughout my career, I have served as a middle and high school social studies teacher, assistant high school principal, director of secondary education, and professional development facilitator. Over the past 20 years, I have worked both in charter and traditional public education, and now I’m in the education technology sector.
“I first developed expertise in Edmentum product use and administration during my experiences as both a teacher and, later, an administrator for alternative and specialty education programs (e.g., Saturday school, summer school, K–8 Title I intervention, and high school credit recovery programming). In my current role, I love the opportunity to help other educators make the most of these programs and support students’ success.
“I earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations at the James Madison College at Michigan State University, and a master’s degree in teaching (secondary social studies education) and an educational specialist degree in K–12 education administration from Wayne State University. My specializations include curriculum development, organization reconfiguration and planning, secondary education, teacher and program evaluation, Section 504/IDEA compliance, and educational program planning and consulting.
“In my spare time, I’m involved in several service philanthropic organizations, with an emphasis on community improvement and child welfare.”
LaToya Hozian, Implementation Consultant
“In my role as an implementation consultant, I help support my educational partners in Michigan by doing a myriad of things: I welcome and thank them for working with Edmentum, I help complete system setup meetings, and I learn what teachers actually need our programs to do by asking pointed questions to understand how I can help customize our solutions to their specific needs, standards, and district initiatives. I also provide ongoing support via phone, email, and Web conference to answer any questions teachers may have, and I consult on how they can use our solutions in nontraditional ways to be able to meet the needs of their student populations. Prior to working with Edmentum, I was a high school English teacher for seven years, where I also wore several hats: I helped with the technology integration team, I was an advisor for various clubs and organizations, I taught the after-school credit recovery English courses, and I was also a coach.”
