Four SEL Courses to Promote Mental Health and Wellness in the New Year
Four SEL Courses to Promote Mental Health and Wellness in the New Year

Ongoing events and their impact on students have illuminated the need for comprehensive social-emotional learning (SEL). Take advantage of the fresh start a new year brings by implementing SEL in your school or district and promoting mental health and wellness for all students.
BASE Education is the world’s first and only online, CASEL-designated, and evidence-based SEL platform. BASE Education courses are highly interactive and designed to improve students’ social-emotional skills. Take a look at four of our favorite courses designed to encourage your students to reflect on how they see the world and others, how they think, and how they see themselves in order to refresh their outlook for 2021 and beyond.
Social Justice Series Part One: Equity
Social justice has been one of the most prevalent topics of the past year—students have seen news coverage, have encountered content through social media channels, and have possibly been impacted personally. Being confronted with such a serious topic that seems very complicated and difficult to solve may leave students feeling stressed, anxious, and even powerless. Embrace this opportunity to teach students the fundamentals of social justice and give them practical strategies that they can use to make an impact through the new Equity course. Equity is the first course to be released in BASE Education’s four-part social justice series. As students interact with course content, they will develop a deep understanding of equity, and they will be prompted to explore their own sense of privilege, challenges, and responsibility in society.
Vision of Self
Evaluating one’s vision of self may not be top of mind for students, but it’s an important concept to unpack because it influences the choices we make, the relationships we engage in, and our plans for the future. In the Vision of Self course, students will learn how their experiences shape their vision of themselves. They will learn how to identify both healthy and unhealthy perspectives and the impact those perspectives can have. Students will also learn how to implement healthy viewpoints and how to explore barriers to success, gaining tools to help them grow and overcome challenges.
Character Traits
Students often study character traits when learning about literature and history, but how much time do students spend reflecting on their own character and whether it reveals who they truly want to be? The Character Traits course defines positive character traits such as empathy, honesty, integrity, accountability, and respect. Students will learn the importance of strong character, and they will learn how to implement positive and healthy traits.
All or Nothing Thinking
The world is rarely black and white, but when we are faced with difficult situations or emotions, it can be hard to see anything but the extremes. The All or Nothing Thinking course defines extreme-thinking patterns and shows how they can limit relationships, feelings, and perspectives. This course highlights the impact of limited thinking and discusses healthy alternatives to dysfunctional habits. Take a deep dive into this course by viewing the recorded webinar, Social-Emotional Learning in Action – All or Nothing Thinking.
All students need social-emotional learning, and the courses in this post are a great way for them to get started. To learn more about BASE Education and the courses available, check out our BASE Education webpage and course list.
