U.S. News’ Best High Schools 2015 Recognizes Two Edmentum Rock Star Schools

Getting students to the cap-and-gown moment is what all educators strive for. A high school diploma is crucial to a student’s future achievements, and according to new data from Achieve, it is estimated that 30 of the 46.8 million job openings in 2018 (about 64%) will require some education and training beyond high school.
An outstanding high school education can offer students a huge advantage in postsecondary education and the working world. That’s why U.S. News & World Report conducts an annual survey of public high schools to highlight top-performing schools on state and national levels. This year’s rankings include data on more than 21,000 public high schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. So, we are very excited to share the news that two Edmentum partner schools recently recognized in our Rock Star School Program, Newport High School and Mare Island Technology (MIT) Academy, have been awarded the bronze medal for Best High Schools of 2015!
U.S. News & World Report teamed with RTI International, a leading research institute, and carried out the review using a three-step process to name the 2015 Best High Schools. The first step determined whether each school’s students were performing better than statistically expected for students in the state. Schools that met this criteria passed on to the second step, which assessed whether their disadvantaged students were outperforming disadvantaged students in their state. Schools who met this second requirement as well then became eligible to be judged nationally on the third and final piece of criteria—college-readiness performance—using Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate data..
"A high school diploma is essential for career and financial success," said Brian Kelly, editor and chief content officer of U.S. News & World Report. "The Best High Schools rankings are a useful tool for families trying to discern how well schools are serving their students in preparation for college and careers."
Having two Edmentum partner schools receive the Best High Schools Bronze Award is a great accomplishment, as it puts them in the top third of high schools nationwide. Much hard work and dedication goes into making Newport HS’ and MIT Academy’s programs a success, and these rankings recognize that work. We are extremely proud of both schools and would like to congratulate their dedicated staffs and committed students!
